"Those flying lights are some kind of crystals floating around in a swarm. They do make a light and heavenly sounding music when they touch each other while flying around."
Haven't done a matte painting for a while now and I just felt like doing one the other night. I randomly chose some stock photos and had I rough idea in mind, when I started with those. The main idea was established within 30 minutes or so and the rest about painting everything out.
Worked (enjoyed) about 5 hours on this one. There are 4 different stock photos included, the rest is painted digitally.

Overall Vision Originality Technique ImpactI really like this piece. I think it's partly to do with the sci-fi element of it and also the lovely cool, dark, and moody blue atmosphere.
I really love the buildings; they look both futuristic, but
also somehow medieval in a rustic kind of way. It's a kind
of post-apocalyptic setting maybe, but the blue suggests there might be some hope for humanity. I also really like the moons, great idea.
The only criticism I have is that maybe there is too much going on in this picture? First of all you have the landscape, but it's not just a landscape, it has buildings and then the pipelines and then the twin moons. Then you have a portal in the middle and wispy things flying about. It all looks good, but I feel like there is a little too much going on and felt almost overwhelmed.
Anyway, good job on this picture. Keep up the good work!
